Essentialism: Essentialism is a subject-centered philosophy and is the educational philosophy of teaching basic skills at Kin Dah Lichi’i. Olta. Teachers focus on teaching a series of progressively difficult topics and promoting students to the next grade level. Subjects are focused on the historical context of the material world and culture and move sequentially to give a solid understanding of the present day. On a typical day at Kin Dah Lichi’i Olta, students attend school in a self-contained grade-level class each day. The teachers impart knowledge through lectures and the use of instructional technology, students are expected to take notes. The students are provided with laptops, practice workbooks, and hands-on projects, followed by an assessment of the learning material covered during this process. The students continue with the same daily schedule for a semester or a year.
In addition, students attend Physical Education classes, Library classes, and Computer classes, commonly known as “Specials”. The other Special class is Navajo Language and Culture.
